Earlier this month, the Bathing & Beyond project launched with a remarkable gathering at Havet Arena in Trondheim. This inaugural event delved into the cultural, ecological, and artistic dimensions of public bathing spaces. Merging Nordic bathing traditions with performance art, it invited participants to reflect on our shared connection to water and the urgent need to care for aquatic ecosystems.
Through holistic sauna rituals, presentations , workshops, water ceremonies, and artistic interventions, we explored the intricate interplay between bodies of water and our own liquid, electric, and chemical systems. Together, we examined how communal bathing rituals can foster ecological awareness, artistic expression, and collective memory.
The Trondheim Fjord stood as a witness and active collaborator, reminding us of water’s critical role in sustaining life and inspiring care.
This event was made possible through the leadership of founder and curator Nazaré Soares, producer Eden Baths, and producer and host Havet Arena, with in kind support from Rosendal Theater, Remida and Trøndelag Senter for Samtidskunst. Supported by Nordisk Kulturefond, and KORO. We deeply thank all professionals and partners involved and look forward to future growth.
