Vever/Gođđi/Weaver – DanseFestival Barents – Norway 2024

Textile Installation and performance Art. Project by Marita Isobel Sorbeg

In WEAVER, I was invited by the director to perform while manually spinning wool, both by hand and using a spinning wheel. The piece, created by artist Marita Isobel Solberg, delves into the art of weaving as a powerful metaphor for exploration, presence, and play. Marita’s work draws from her roots in Manndalen, northern Troms, and the traditional Rátnu-grene (warp-weighted loom) technique. Collaborating with Stellaris dancers, I was part of an immersive performance that incorporated chanting, philosophy, and play, all while engaging with a 5-meter high loom. WEAVER was featured as the opening of DanseFestival Barents 2024, evolving through three performances, and supported by various cultural organizations including Dáiddadállu and Arts and Culture Norway.
