Aguadeiras

I was invited to perform as part of the project Aguadeiras by Cris Marcondes, a performance we held together at Rossio Square south fountain in Lisbon last on 25th March . An initiation, a thread of honey to our ancestry and honor the image of the water-bearing woman. I feel deeply honor to be part and support this work that has clos connections to my Portuguese roots. Deep thanks for the invitation to Cris Marcondes, we came to be in communion and awareness of water consciousness and reconnected with the river Tejo.

The performance is within a larger project by Cris Marcondes researches experimentation in the body of ancestral records of cultural memory that she, Brazilian dancer/choreographer, carries in “conversation” with a female ancestral figure: the water-bearing woman.

“Water sources can be considered cultural territories of ancestry of many peoples. The water-bearing woman consecrates the water and draws the magic of ancient times, through singing and work. Bring together image, and body/territory, they immerse themselves in the gesture, in the ancestral voices, and the waters … and let the emotions, memories, and expressions flow into movements, weave images permeated by songs, drums, and prayers that refer to the liquid universes of the body, tracing winding paths of water, crossing portals, borders … fountains … on the threshold of falling, of the duality of existence, where the sweet salts, where water in a unique form of a stream, it may be just a drop.

The choreographic work was based on the movement of water and its shapes on the body, as well as the contact of water and dance in this volatile and dynamic element. how the body behaves inside and outside it. The circles and spirals, the waves and the shape. As water penetrates us and we in it, in an intimate relationship, intertwining natures.” Cris Marcondes
