Interdisciplinary Artist / Aquatic Bodywork Therapist / Bath Master
“How to access the memory held in our bodies? How do we listen to Water and the liquids running in our bodies, in the veins, in the fascias, the connective tissue fluids, the oceans, the seas, the rivers running on Earth? Between the skin and stone, the breath and the sound, the ice and the sun, the mist and the mountain, the cells and the touch, there is a constant, circular whirling, pendular oscillation. Some refer to ‘borderland travelers’ as those who walk in between liminalities, between the everchanging realm of the spirits and the unpredictable flow of life”
“My work is rooted in hydrofeminism, deep ecology, and neo-animist ontologies. I explore how art can bridge the nature-culture binary by establishing alliances with the Land and its inhabitants. From touching on a cellular level to listening to plant tissues, art may unveil the interdependencies of animated entities.“
“I facilitate incubations in water that gently influence the thermal properties of cell clusters and harmonic crystals. Driven by quantum activism, I investigate how the body’s memory records and recalls experiences, impacting the manifestation of realities. The interplay between individual and collective memory can address liquid futurities, thus co-creating new imaginaries for collaborative survival.”
Nazaré Soares
Nazaré Soares (Spain/Norway/Portugal) is an interdisciplinary artist, aquatic bodywork therapist, and bath master. She investigates relational arts and spiritual technologies within the contexts of contemporary art and deep ecologies. She deepens her work in hydrotherapy through aquatic bodywork practices and Phyto-thermal bathing, integrating it into artistic research. She works around notions of neo-pharmacopoeias, invisibility, imperceptibility, and magic engineering. Her practice interweaves psychoacoustic and cinematic spaces, speculative design, and performance arts, producing spaces for ritual and incubation means. Her interest in systems of interconnectivity within invisible architectures is deeply grounded in cartographies of reparations, topographies of imaginary spaces, and inner landscapes.
Her current research project, ‘Water Holds the Shell of the Skin, a Cluster of Cells,’ seeks to rekindle the cultural significance of communal bathing while exploring cellular memory, liquid intelligence, and fostering relational practices in contemporary art. Her investigation is underlying artistic tools for reparation while diving into topics of intergenerational trauma and transmigration of the soul within practices of hydrofeminism.
She is a founder and curator of the art platform Invisibledrum based in Norway, a platform investigating interrelationships and interconnections within technology, art, ecologies, and animistic systems in contemporary society. Nazaré is a curator and board member at Tribute Earth, an NGO that provides access to ancestral wisdom and regenerative biocultural projects.
She is trained in aquatic Somatic Education for Aquatic Bodywork at Liquidzome, Portugal, and as Bath Masters & Traditional use of Plants in steam bath and whisking at the International Bath Academy in Vilnius, Lithuania (2023). She received a scholarship at MFA LAV Program (Laboratorio Audiovisual Creación Práctica Contemporánea) in Madrid (2019). She was granted a Master’s Degree in Fine Art from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (2017). She graduated in Moving Image Arts from Brighton University (2014); as part of this course, she spent three months studying in Ramallah at the Academy of Art of Palestine.
